I am a swimmer. I work with water, in water. I swim in pools, rivers, lakes and in the sea. I swim several hours a day.
When I swim I think about each and every stroke; my breathing, body position and movement in time and space.
Among my concerns is being in the moment, the experience of depth; the idea of swimming as a form of direct, camera-less filmmaking and live, immersive cinema.
The multisensory process of swimming provides me with a vehicle for tactile conversation; imaging, projection and feedback; a dialogue between interior and exterior worlds.
This page features a selection material relating to a sea swim I completed from England to France in 2016. I am still processing the experience and new related works are in production
Video documentation of the swim was captured by the artist John Hartley and my coach, Tim Denyer.
